i posted something a while back, but my 97 4Runner leans to the left side really bad. i measured from the top of the tire to the wheel well on both sides and the left side sags by an 2 3/4"... could this just be the coil springs needing to be replaced? already changed out shocks and struts... o and it only sags in the front on the left side about an inch... ideas are needed.

You might want to check underneath the vehicle closely, rear and front. Look at all the spring seats, springs, shocks and control arms and see if anything is bent or broken. Compare the parts side to side and see if anything looks different.

Yes, take a shot of the springs lower cups on the strut on the front of the vehicle. Sounds like one may be upsidedown?

Did you make sure the slightly longer springs were pplaced on the drivers side to accommodate the gas tank?

Yotas have an issue with the springs on the left side because there is the battery and fuel tank on that side.. You should run all the checks that the other guys said but I believe you are in for new springs...

Im having the same problem, i figured at first it was a body mount or something like that but at a closer look everything looked fine. then i got thinking... i took my runner in to get a leveling kit installed at a local shop and after reading this i wouldn't be surprised if the dummy they got for a mechanic there mixed them up.

OME makes a really good low cost suspension and they compensate for the added weight on the left!!!!
most of these issues stem from the battery at 50-75 lbs and the fuel at ???lbs
all being on the same side as the driver who is the only person that is always in the truck at ??? weight

Yes it all adds up and this is one of the biggest design flaws in our trucks!!!!!!!

i noticed the fuel tank and thought it had a lot to do with it, but did not think it would cause such a sag.... it all makes sense though. how about a heavy duty replacement coils for the rear? plus i plan on going with 99 model coils for the extra heighth.

I have a 2002 and have minor lean to the left side - mayne 1/2 inch. I have the OME 906/880 coils and it still leans a bit.

Eddieleaphd - what did you mean that OME has a low cost coil kit that accounts for the heavier weight on the left side? I believe I have their cheapest kit, and the coils are the same size left to right in the front, but they are different in the rear. Are they the only ones that make the difference?

no not at all the only ones you can call any coil spring shop you find and ask for the same size coil that is intended to carry another 50lbs than stock and one for stock and remedy the issue.... The only reason I point out OME is that they are the only ones that I have found that say htey try to compensate for it, I do have an OME set up front. I did call Alcan in Colorado and had them build a set, the set I asked them to build for the rear was rated 150lbs over stock, I really have liked my set up and love the way it handles with and without a load..
Really as long as you compensate 50+lbs on the whole set up the better, the fact is that much added weight over time will wear any system weather or not you compensate for it. so we do the best we can without ruining the ride. I mean the frame of these trucks can only do so much, so any more than 300lbs added carrying capacity is kinda really not good on the truck either which way.

I had this happen on my 86' pick up leaf spring. The helper gave up and it was making the truck leave bad! Need a new one or just buy a lift kit with some new leafs..

To adjust for lean on the 3rd gen 4Runner OME offers three parts. The 95PF5, front trim packer. This goes under the coil seat on their (OME) driver side front strut. They also offer the 80PF05 and 80PF10 rear trim spacers (5 and 10 mm) Assuming good springs you can usually get pretty close with these adjustments.

installed my OME coils and bilstein shocks and I still have just as bad of a lean as before. I will recheck the measurements tomorrow and compare. the coils were the exact same height as well. They need to just make a spacer or extension for this flaw.

If you have a ride height difference of 2.75" from front left to front right, then this doesn't sound like the typical 4Runner drivers side lean. Did you purchase the vehicle this way? Did you perform some modifications or maintenance to the suspension, etc that resulted in this?
