Right now I have the clear signal lenses and am using the OEM bulbs and those almost look slightly amber due to the whiteness of my Silverstar headlamp bulbs but the corners just look dull with the clears.

if we were able to do a group buy on the 4800k bulbs, could we get matching corner, license plate, and backup light bulbs? I couldnt stand having a noticable difference between the headlights and corner lights.

To Randomness: The closest color to yellow is amber. They don’t have PIAA ion crystal type of yellow.

To lee: How many diodes are in each of your 7443 bulb? Are you using red LED bulb inside a red lens?

To dibble9012: Did you mean 3800K bulbs instead? We were talking about 3800K H3 HIR as well as 4000K H4 Fatboys above. So I suggest that we stick around this 4000-ish K range for color uniformity. LED super white outputs this range as well. But to think even more forward, let’s say we may eventually need to utilize some of those high-performance incandescent bulbs (eg: for backup, interior dimming lights, etc.). I would suggest getting the following series: PIAA Xtreme White, POLARG H1 Hybrid, RAYBRIG Platinum White. These should all emit in the 4000K range but I cannot guarantee a perfect visible match, cos’ after all, these are all made by different makers.

Maybe I missed it but, how well will plug in leds work on a 2nd gen with stock lenses (not clear) work? Would they be bright enough?
thanks.

Hm ... what bulb configuration are we talking about here? Some models come with 30 diodes each. But general speaking, I think they will be dimmer than high-performance incandescent ones.

Okay, so the 194 type LED bulbs, with 6 LED's are brighter than the ones with 9? Which would be the best for a corner (parking) light application?

The 6x LED is the brightest for "ITS size & type". The 9x LED should be brighter if your housing can accomodate its oversize adn if all you need is forward light. But the ultimate brightness depends on the shape/nature of your reflector.

If you measure the brightness from these bulbs straight up, 9x is of course brighter than 6x. But this 6x is wide angle so if you house it in a wrap-around reflector, the 6x may fill up the whole lamp housing richer/brighter than the 9x. So it all depends on your reflector shape and your needs. For corner light, probably the 5x & 6x are more suitable. If your stock corner bulb is of the 194 type, that means it consumes only 5w. 6x & 9x LEDs are in the 168 (18w) territory already. I am using the 5x LED to replace the 194 (5w) corner bulb and the 5x LED is as bright as, if not brighter, than the 194.

LED to produce 108 lumens in 5500K & 270 lumens in 618nm (red)!

A company called Lamina Ceramics is soon to release the brightest LED display: 108 lumens in 5500K & 270 lumens in 618nm (red). FYI, Lumileds SuperFlux LED produces only about 3.5 lumens. And Lumileds already makes some of the brightest & most desired LED components currently speaking.

Lamina products are being used in this concept Volvo:

I just changed out the rear bulbs on my 1st gen to LEDs. Turns are 24-LED amber, brakes are 24-LED red, parking lights are 6-LED red and the backup lights are 30-LED white, narrow beam and they are really nice. I added load ressitors for the turn signals, adding them to a trailer wiring plug so they can be easily removed if needed.

Lights are easily visible in daylight and the backup lights are so much better than the stock bulbs. I think the stock "reflector" on the backup bulbs is pretty poor, even with the surrounding black plastic painted with a shiny paint. The LEDs have internal reflectors and with the narrow 30 degree beam units, they throw all the light to the rear where it is needed.

Overall, I'm pretty unhappy with my LEDs. They look cool at night, but no one sees my turn signals during the day. I bought the 24-Matrix LEDs from www.autolumination.com on a '93 4Runner.

I'm hoping someone makes a full array like on the Cadillac DTS and Escalade, so visibility isn't an issue.

Used them to back into my driveway tonight and for the first time I could see where I was going.

did you just buy parts and make your own, or did you just buy the plug and play bulbs?

EDIT: I read your other post, I'm a moron, my apologies.
