I am the third owner of a 99 Runner. It currently has the 3 spoke 16 inch OEM wheels. The problem is, I have a 15" spare (225/75/15 I think). The spare fits fine, I mounted it a couple days ago to make sure. Does this mean I can run any 15" wheel? I dont understand how I could have the smaller brakes? Could someone fill me in?
Also, I have been searching about his for the last 2 hours and I am more confused than when I started. Please dont tell me to search. . .

But the 15 inch spare does fit on my brakes which I am assuming means i have the smaller brakes?

If it fits the fronts, you have the smaller brakes.

Did you check the front caliper clearance? If so, lucky you. You get a lower price on new rims & tires.:bigclap:

bigger brakes i think were only on limited and sr5 sport editions if im not correct plz tell me. Ive checked mine and I can only run 16s or higher. I have a sport edition.

It depends on the wheel package that came from the factory.

16" wheels and 31" tires = larger front discs

15" wheels will fit on the rear of all 3rd gens, but not on the front if you have the larger brakes

running different size tires at the same time is fine. look at a corvette, viper, GT, etc.

Those cars are staggered from the factory. The suspension was made to run with wider tires in the back. That's not the case with your average cars, though. The main issue here is the overall tire size. Make sure that the overall size is pretty close and you should be fine. But I wouldn't recommend it for everyday use--just for emergencies.

I have a '99 4Runner Base Wagon with 4WD. And even though it was the "bare bones" model, apparently mine came from the factory with option package SV, which included 16X7" Steel Wheels, W/P265/70 Tires, Chrome Wheel Arch Molding, 4.100 Rear Diff, and 13" Front Disc Brakes. So all 5 of my rims including my spare, are 16X7 JJ.
