Odyssey battery released the PC1400
Odyssey now offers a direct replacement (oem fit) battery for trucks!
The PC1400 comes in a group 25 and 35.
100 minute reserve capacity, 740 CCA, 4 year warranty.
I'm ordering one this week. Anyone else interested? Hoping to get a discount if we get a couple more buyers.

FYI - The Sears DieHard Platinum is made by the company that makes Odyssey. Basically the same battery - good charge maintenance and deep cycles (best of both worlds). I just bought a 35 series for my '02 4Runner. It's easier to find a Sears than an Odyssey dealer, plus you get the ease of servicing a warrantee should you need it anywhere around the country. If you go this route, make sure to get the 35R. The database at Sears specs the wrong size. Consumer Reports also rated this battery at the top of their list.

Most 4cyl trucks will take the 35 or 25 (same batt just a different height), but V6 and some 4cyl will take the 24. My 86 4runners battery tray fits a 24, some toyotas I been to take either or. I prefer the 24 series as its bigger and more capacity and fits in there better.
I do battery installs for AAA subcontractors for a living, so I would say the info I gave is pretty darn accurate.

So how do you think it compares to an equivalent Optima?
I've been researching the two for a while and so far when it comes to a bang for the buck the Optima works out a little better on the wallet. THe two features I've found on the Odyssey that you can get on the Optima is metal case and brass terminals otherwise I think the two are pretty much the same.
Since I'm not a bells and whistles type of buyer and I'm guessing the quality to be the same I'm going to go with an Optima.
I do like the Odyssey, it does appear to be a fine battery.

From what I've been able to research, the difference between a marine deep cycle and automotive deep cycle is the style of posts.
The marine batteries have the two wing-nut posts on the top.

Exide Orbital. Love it-from Napa and groovy good.
The exide, odyssey and other high end batteries play in the world of "super slick" energy storage devices.
If you just start your truck every day and drive to work, drive to Sears or Costco and knock yourself out.
If you have "special needs" get something like an orbital, odyssey or whatever helps you sleep at night.

Didn't see this when you asked..just came across it while looking for another post.
I've had the DH Platinum installed for about 3 months and only start my 4runner once a week. It fires up everytime without any hesitation in both warm and cold temperatures.
I bought this battery because IMO it's the best one out there.
I actually bought two (group 35 and group 34) but lost my receipt. I'm selling the group 35 and might ship it.
The group 34 will work if you modify the battery cables and use a supplied spacer/riser.

Just got the P5 (35) DH Platinum at Sears today. Installation was easy, normal bracket and pwr/grnd cables worked fine. My Optima has let me down 2 times in the last 2.5 wks. Had to get the wifey to come jump me. First time I have ever been left for dead while out in the Yota....well, actually I was at a sporting goods store, so I just shopped hunting rifles until the Mrs. showed up!!!
Thanks for the tip on the DHP battery gents. I didn't even know about them until I read your posts.

I don't know anything about this Odyssey battery, they may be in a totally different league than most other batteries out there and totally worth the money. I'm too cheap to fork over $260 though. I just got a new battery a month or so ago. I went with this Walmart battery, a series 24F everstart maxx. It has 750 cca, just fits, and has the terminals on the right side. It was $79. I had two of this brand in my diesel pickup for 7 years and they still tested good when I finally bought new ones. Someone once told me that there were only 3 or 4 or so battery companies in the US that make all the different brands of auto batteries. I don't know if that's true or not, but if you really look close at some of the different batteries out there, they look a lot alike except for the sticker. I think getting a fresh battery may be one of the most important factors when shopping for a new one. Here is some info I cut and pasted from the Johnson Control's website.
"Johnson Controls now supplies original equipment batteries for leading automakers, including DaimlerChrysler, Ford, Honda, Nissan, and Toyota. A stable of leading battery brands, including DieHard, Duralast, Interstate, ProStart, and Everstart, along with others, all bear Johnson Controls signature. Aftermarket service is also important, and customers represented in this segment of the market include AutoZone, Interstate Battery, Sears, Wal-Mart, and Costco."
A picture to show the fit......

Group 35's fit just fine without modification, as does a 34R although this last needs a spacer for greater height. A straight Group 34 will have the terminals on the wrong side. I have a CostCo Group 35 in mine. I was disappointed only getting less than five years from my Optima (and it was a Made in USA one), so I'm not really inclined to sink big bucks into a AGM battery again.
