new tires. one rubs
I put 265/75-16 Terra Grapplers on my '96 4Runner (running boards removed), got an alignment, and now the right front tire rubs when I have the wheels turned to the right and go over a bump, driveway, etc. Only the right side rubs. The left tire has what looks to be plenty of clearance with the wheels turned to the left, but the rear of the right tire has almost no clearance with the steering wheel turned one turn to the right. This is strange. The alignment numbers are within spec and neither the tire shop or alignment shop mentioned anything being bent. What do you guys think could be the cause?

Has your 4runner been in an accident? Measure a few different places on both sides and see if they are the same. Things like the body panels and bumper. It could be that they are off a little and aren't noticeable until you stuff a big tire in there. Do you have a lift? If not maybe it's time to get one. I think that if you have problems on the street you'll have a heck of a time offroad.

got the same size tires (revos) yeasterday and no issues at all w/o any lift on 2000 4runner. i've read on here a lot of people saying that tire will fit w/o any issues. something is off with your truck i'd say.

yeah I'm thinking the same thing. The left tire has no rubbing at all. Only the right does. Something must be bent or the body on crooked or something.
If I take a BFH to the wheel well of the right front tire am I going to hurt anything?

probably not, trim, pound or whatever you need to get it not to rub. that is putting a band aid on a deeper problem abviously and "fixing" it w/o getting to the root of the problem but....if it aligned straight and drives fine, i'd say go for it. prolly cheaper and faster.

Do you have stock wheels? My aftermarket wheels' backspacing makes my 265/75/16's rub on my Limited's plastic add-ons, even with a mild lift - it's only on one side as well.

ok went outside and measured the height from ground to the middle of the lip of the fender. on the left I got 35.5 inches and on the right 34 3/4 inches. This is with nobody in the 4Runner. Is the 3/4 inch difference there to account for the weight of the driver, or is it not supposed to be there?
Also, the spot where the right tire is rubbing is the rear most part of the tire. In other words, if you were a passenger sitting in the front seat and stretched your foot out, the other side of where your foot is is where it's rubbing. Where a mudflap would mount. Probably easier to explain with a picture but I don't have a camera at work.
It seems like the right wheel is about 1/2 inch further toward the rear or the vehicle than the left wheel. hmm.

Also, try measuring from the center of the wheel to the fenders all the way around to get a better idea of where the wheel is positioned in the wheel well.

bizzarre... my 33x12.50s barely rub at nearly full stuff.. stock FJ rims
(maybe diff offset?)
I had 265s before and they barely came close at full stuff and didnt touch - stock
Maybe one of your A arm brackets has been bent ? (somnone hit a curb or something really hard?) try measuring along the frame parts where everything is on each side.

Why are people with 2nd gens trying to help him with tire rub problems
Nothing in the suspension or body are the same so its totaly irrelevant
Any way...I had some minor rubbing on the right side with my 265 bfg all terrain tires and just pounded on the pinch welds a bit. Could just be that your springs and shocks are just tired. My measurements are about 35" from ground to the bottom of the Sr5 flares. Think of it this way, now you have an excuse to lift it.
