Need axle info!!!!!!!

I have an 88 runner but bought a 91 front axle housing complete because I needed the 4.56 gearing but the 91 has the auto lock mechanism on the long side of the axle housing and my 88 doesn't. Can I just manually lock the mechanism so my hubs will lock and unlock the front axles, or can I remove the entire long side axle and housing from the 91 and bolt on the 88???? Any help or info would be deeply appreciated! Thank you.............. stuck in rear wheel drive, TIM

Ditto. I did this when I regeared. Piece of cake. Having ADD and manual hubs is redundant.
