Well I thought I bought a 2002 Sport Edition 4x4 but now i'm questioning my purchase. Its Stellar Blue Peral with all the Sport options (16" wheels, 265's, hood, mats, mono, etc.) BUT it gets odd because the door sticker says it has 15" wheels. Does anyone know what this means? I'm not really worried because i'm 100% satisfied with my truck, but I just want to figure out what I own.

But arn't Sport Editions supposed to come from the factory with 4.10's and 16" wheels?

There's another post just like this. Most 3rd gens say 15" wheels factory even though they came w/ 16's. Don't ask me why but that's what the other post said. BTW, you can check your gearing on Sonoransteel's website if you want to confirm...

I don't see why people don't just jack up there rear wheels off the ground, mark the drive shaft and pumpkin with whiteout, and count the revolutions of the shaft as another person spins one of the wheels exactly two times around.
I did it in the parking lot at work with a guy that only spoke Japanese and could tell the difference between 4.10 and 4.30.

I checked that, by my vehicle code corresponds to 3 different gear codes...

It costs LESS on import taxes for a vehicle to be as "stripped" as possible so the port/dealer can add options and jack up the price. Go as your local Toyota dealer salesman to splain it to you...it's all about MONEY!
All that "Sports" stuff is probably a port installed option.
There is a difference in "factory", "port" and "dealer"...you guys need to try using Google and get some automotive edukmakashun.

Just to clarify:
All Toyota 4Runners/Pickups/Tacomas have door stickers that say they have 225/75-15 tires. (I have yet to hear of any that didn't say 225...).
I doubt that his were switched at the port, as the Sports with 16" wheels also came with larger rotors and different calipers that would not work with 15" wheels. Easy to switch wheels, not so easy to switch calipers.

This has been a long time inconsistency in my mind.

Maybe the limiteds list 265 on the sticker since they came with 265's standard?? and the 265's were optional on the SR5's?

So if your sticker says 265, then you had OE 265, but if it says 225, then either 225 or 265.
So I guess there are some trucks out the with 265 stickers...
Learn something new all the time.

While I have heard many reasons why some vehicles have improper door stickers, one thing is clear......the door sticker is not necessarily correct when it comes to tire size, so you really don't need to worry about it.

Ok, here is my theory, and my personal experience. I have an '01 Sport 4x4 auto, 16" rims. My stickers says 225 tires w/ 15" rims, and I know I have 4.10 gears. 15" would NOT fit when tested on my truck, they rubbed the calipers. My theory is that toward the end of the 4runners production there were many bodys left over that were intended for 15" packages. Therefore these bodies were instead used for the more popular limited and Sport packages, so they would sell off. Kind of similar to the badlands edition, surplus parts put to good use. But I know for a fact that 15x7 wheels with 4.25" BS would NOT fit on my truck, even though my door sticker says 225 tires. This was NOT a port installed option on my truck at least.

They install a variety of option packages at port...that is how they make money w/o paying all those extra import taxes...why not a brake upgrade from 15" wheel calipers to 16" wheel calipers to go along with the wheel package upgrade.
I turned my dealer salesman bud onto this thread, so maybe he'll chime in and clear it up for us.
