aowRS, I am going to play with the brackets that will be left inside for the stock radio, as in drill the mounting holes I will use to elongate them to adjust how the radio will sit.

Also, I am going to see about fiberglass if that does not work.

Super nice radio man, just wish the thing played DVD's w/o a changer, but it is kinda low and out of the way for the passenger.

I'll let ya know how it turns out.

4RF,
I presume you know that I've been adding to this thread because of my enthusiasm about this mod. I'm excited that you received the unit.

The gap that I and others have mentioned, is at the top, and appears to be unavoidable when trimming the sides. Take a look at the brackets and the mounting points in general, and see if there is a way to nudge the entire unit upwards slightly. That way, the cut lines could meet cleaner in the corners and not look so obvious.

One other thought that I had was to use sme sort of black piping around the stereo surround opening.

Again, congrats on getting it - I already have the green light from the CFO and will pursue this in the next few weeks. I look forward to your install thoughts.

Andreas

Just wanted to add to the conversation that the Eclipse unit does not require any trimming or purchasing additional addons to view videos, have additional inputs, rear camera view, etc. The only things it doesn't have is the ability to control an ipod and the maintenance records.

And the output voltage is not as big an issue as everyone thinks. Just my opinion. Either unit rocks tho. Having indash DVD navigation is so handy Good luck on the install 4RF, remember to post lots of pics

You do not know me, apparently. I like doing things cleanly, and correctly. I only asked 4RF to post his thoughts on the actual trimming. I am more than capable of doing this easy mod. And whether you think it or not, all of the posted pics regarding this mod show some sort of an unavoidable gap at the top where the corner radius of the original opening meets the trimmed sides.

Why don't you calm down and stop acting superior to someone you have never met.

Andreas

Took all but 10 minutes to pop the panels off and diconnect the radio and take pics of the wires and all. I think I could have this done in 1½ hrs tops.

Now I am going back out to play with the mounting and test fit a few ideas.

rearviewmirror -
Do you have some sort of an issue with me? Have I ever said anything to you directly that explains your last few postings?

Feel free to email me directly rather than leaving these ridiculous emoticon-laden replies.
