Arrow lifting the yota

jus wonderin which suspension lift kit people recommend for a 95 4runner with IFS and where to get it, ive heard about pro comp, skyjacker, trailmaster, and downey. Thanx

It kind of depends on how high you want to lift it, and what size tires you want to run.

There is a suspension round-up in progress linked from this page.

You can fit 33" tires on a 2nd gen 4Runner or truck of the same body style by cranking up the T bars up front, and in the back using some aftermarket coils such as Downey, OME, Performance, and also adding the Downey 1.5" spacer to the top of them.

And a 1" body lift and a little fender seam massaging in the front will yield room for 33" tires.

But if you want to go bigger than 33s, then a IFS lift is probably what you are looking for.

well, i would really like to put some 35" tires on my 4runner, ive also heard about getting maybe a 3" body lift with a 4" suspension lift, but would that cause any problems? thanx

Any body lift over an inch and you're looking for some extra work like shift linkages and steering wheel shaft etc...

Let us know what you come up with though. You could always do a SAS and put some leafs in the rear if you wanna go all out.

With 35"s you will deffinatly want to re-gear your differentials if you don't want to totally kill your already sluggish accelation.

As stated with 2" or more of body lift you will have to fix your shifters, steering shaft, fuel filler neck and make sure you don't kink or over-extend your fuel lines. That's why I went with custom made 1.5 inch body lift.

so there really is that much difference between 1.5 and 2'' lift? i was about to order a 2 inch lift, but then i changed my mind to a 1.5 inch. still need the steering column extender tho, right? any other reasons why 1.5 is better/no different than a 2?

im running 35s


i have 4" suspension lift. and 2" body lift, so im clearing pretty good. my rear sags now again after i put in the downey springs. but its all good, coz now i have lower center of gravity and i still have the travel.

but i did regear my diffs. they are at 456 so im running pretty good. im no dragster, but ish all good. saves me money in the long run... less speeding tickets!

A good compromise is a set of 32's.. (With 33's you only get 1/2" of height more) I just put a set on mine with 4:56 gears and a 5spd.. They stuff fully with out hitting front or rear, and the truck is still very streetable with out re-gearing (33 would need gears I think) Look for upcomming photos of the 32's

You should get the Procomp stage two becuse it has supports to the bumpstops from the blocks and also has rear supports behind the blocks to the main frame..

would a 4:88 gear ratio be better for 35"s, and 5:13 or 5:29 would probably be a little over doing it right?

It's my understanding that most guys will go with 5.29 gearing for 35" tires. That will supposedly bring your odometer and RPMs in line with stock but I'd bet you would be just fine with 4.88s.

The bigger you go, the weaker the R&P.

Any help

I don't know if this helps but when I was doing my research for my lift I decided to go with a full Superlift 4" suspension lift kit. Only because it was the only one that came with rear leaf springs. Here in Maine we can't use blocks in our suspension lifts, it's illegal. My 88 runner came with a 3" body lift so I had no choice in that one. But my local offroad shop was willing to work with me on what I wanted...He offered me a couple of choices. ProComp Stage II for the front, Superlift springs in the rear is what I should have gone with...but I went with the whole Superlift kit...I don't know call me anal...lol...So I've got a 3" body lift, 4" Superlift suspension lift, 33" SS TSL Radials running on stock 4.10 gears pushed by a 22RE and I know she won't blow a mustang off the line, but still accelerates rather well considering...I am going to regear to 4.88 though to regain some lost power...Hope this helps...
