installing bull bar and tow hook bolts

I am trying to remove the tow hook bolts but one of them broke off and the other came almost all the way out then just spins. The bullbar it self is very light and would the frame rails be thick enought if i need to tap them for new threads for the brackets?

I am going to try applying pressure the bolt while using a high speed impact and seeing if I can get it out, and the broke off one doenst look good on getting it out with destroying threads.

I think my 4Runner is always on the rag

Likely the nut welded inside the frame rail broke loose. Might be able to use a Riv-Nut inside the holes for the bull bar. Basically like a big pop rivet that compresses on the inside to lock tight to the frame metal.

Going to be one heck of a big riv-nut to fit that hole... I had a similar problem when I tried to get my ship rings off... the bolt that broke you might get loose if you use a heck of a lot of wd40 from the back side inside the frame rail and some heat and a bolt extractor... on the other one if you can get into the frame through one of the access holes you should be able to get a box wrench on the nut to hold it in place and impact away from there but again use lots of '40 and heat...
If it is the rear nut that broke loose [and your frame is similar to mine] there is a rectangular rubber cap that you might pull to get access to the nut but you may have to unbolt and raise the radiator a bit to get in there...
once you get it off you can replace the broken weld nut with a new one grade 8 or better hold it in place with the wrench and use some 262 thread locker to make sure it does'nt back out again later..
Good luck...

Nope, that is why there are bolts welded to the inside of the frame.

well it was looking like it was going to be a chore since on one side, one bolt was broken and the other just spinning. I got a pry bar and an impact and got enough pressure to get the spinning bolt out. as for the other one it was in there pretty good and I dodn't want to try and exrtract it and have that nut in the frame do the same thing. I went ahead and welded the brackets on so I know they are on there good. I didn't want to cut access holes into the frame to get to those nuts.
