Go for rock sliders instead of nerf bars ... cheaper and they can actually hold up to some abuse

sliders protect the lower part of your body (bottom of doors, etc) from damage if you hit a rock or tree around that area. keeps your body from crunching upwards. some sliders are very simple (see my profile pictures), and some are more intricate. they can double as steps, but are usually higher and closer to the body. along with the offroad benefit, no normal car is able to open their door into my truck (they just hit the sliders) and its good shopping cart protection!
