which headers
headers headers headers..... i know its been talked about a bunch here. i did a search and found lotsa info... but everyone of course has mixed opinions on which brand of headers. NWOR, DOWNEY, LCE and one other...
before the search, i really wanted the NWOR coz they were gasketless and they seemed like a great product.
but lotsa ppl here dont like the company and the headers... etc etc. AND i noticed their headers for the 3.0 are not legal in Cali.
so now im down to downey and lce. id go downey coz they are like 10 minutes from me.... but i heard they are a B*tch to install esp with a diff drop lift setup. lotsa custom piping fabing needed.
ne other advice?

LCE doesn't make headers for the 3.0
That leaves Downey. I like mine a lot. Had them on for almost 2 years now and the ceramic coating is still there. No rust or anything.
The install is definitely tough, but nothing a little patience and a sawzall can't conquer.
Check out my writeup in the tech section.

I just bought powder coated Downey's for my 96 3.4L. I have the crossover and the collector, but not the headers themselves. Downey's backed up and projecting another 3 weeks before I'll see them.
fwiw, in one of the other threads, Chris mentioned that he found buying direct from Downey to be cheaper than a retailer. I dunno if I tripped into a happy mistake or not, but I got a heck fo a deal from TruckPerformance.com. For $340 I got headers _with_ the crossover pipe. Downey wanted more than that for the headers alone, and then another $160 for the crossover.
Here's a link to headers for your rig:
http://www.truckperformance.com/vehi...UNNER&sf4=3.0L
$327 for nickel, $415 for ceramics; including the crossover pipe.

I think when I bought mine that Downey had just come out with their ceramic coating option, and was offering a promotion for the time being. I paid $350 for the headers alone.
If I were you, I'd definitely call Downey first and see what they offer. Then compare to other companies. Hell, you don't need me telling you how to shop around.
