Just pull the switch out, and ground the wire that's connected to the back of the switch. If your dome light comes on, and your headlight warning buzzer sounds (assuming you have your headlights on), then the switch is your problem.
You can try cleaning it. I've got a few pictures that show how to do that here. If that doesn't work, just buy a new one.

The problem is that it's stuck in the "pushed" position. The contacts in that switch that should close when the door is opened are not closing cleanly (likely due to dirty contacts), so it makes sense that pushing it in would make no difference.

Remove the switch from the door frame, then GROUND the wire. If the light works, replace the switch. It's about $20.
