My '97 Limited didn't come with a factory alarm, I'm not really sure but I think it was a dealer option.

Alarms on 3rd Gens are installed either port-side (Limiteds) or by the dealer (RS3000 or RS3200 upgrade, SR5 & base). All Tacomas are dealer installed regardless of trim.
