Well, I've been meaning to do this for a few months and finally got the time to do it.

Someone I've know forever but haven't seen for years has a metal fabrication operation. I got a chance to get reaquainted and find out what his capabilities are. I told him about Yotatech and the multitude of Toyota owners looking for well designed, well built armor and accessories.

I've been dabbling with some ideas like a trimmer, tighter fitting, more streamlined front winch bumper with wrap around protection, a high clearance heavy gauge rear bumper with integral taillight guards and options for swing away tire/gerry can/high lift, etc., and a full length low profile roof rack with integral mounts for yak/thule load bars and aux. lighting front and rear.

My buddy has tubing benders, shearing capability up to 1/2" plate, bending of up to 1/4" plate, CNC capability and can work in steel, stainless and aluminum. Can also powder coat, polish, or chrome these items. And he can ship anywhere including Australia (has already for other stuff). Makes wood crates for shipping motor freight.

I plan to firm up the design and do some polls in the future for a member response. All of the initial designs will be for the 2nd Gen 4R since that's what I have. If it takes off, I'll work on adaptations for 3rd Gens and eventually even 4th Gens.

Sounds good.
If someone comes up with a cool 2nd gen rear design before the guy I deal with at Badland Bumper's, that woud be a source for a rear bumper.

I beleive Jeff there is going to be fabbing one up for Daryl's 2nd gen, and Seafairman is getting one for his truck in the rear also from there.

I'm looking for a rear bumper as well. I have a 91 with the rear tire carrier, so it may be a little tricky to do--all I'd ask is for it to be able to secure bushwacker fender flares!

I have the Bushwackers too, so the part that meets the BW will be the same profile as the factory bumper, but then it will sweep up severely to improve the clearance. I want to make these as "factory-like" as possible. I may even do chrome ones on mine.:eek:

Most who got with a custom rear bumper have to cut the Bush's at the back like Mike did here.

I LOVE THAT RIG! I hope mine looks half as good as that someday. My inlaws live in Tucson, I wonder if I can look him up someday when I'm visiting AZ...

Pennsylvania has some new BS legislation that there must be a mudflap down to a certain level behind the rear tires. If I went the route of that AZ 2G, I'd likely be getting pulled over. I might have to add them to mine by the next inspection (October). I was warned. When my 32's wear out, I'm going Roger Brown 1" + 33's. I can see the citation now...:mad:

That is a very slick rear bumper. My only complaint would be the way the rear tire carrier swings out. Pretty dangerous for you and the traffic behind you when you've pulled over.

I'd also add a Hi-Lift mount, Jerry Can mount and some beefy shackles.

Super slick and nice low profile.

Got any more links to pics of rear bumpers anyone? I'm still searching for design ideas. Love those Stout ones but they're Out of Business.

Warren, I agree it's not ideal having the tire swing out to the left side, but it does have one huge advantage in that it doesn't obstruct as much of the view through the rear window.

If I ever have a bumper built, it'd be the left side for me.

If you build a strong enough swing-out bar, the tire could be anywhere you like.

OMG - I'm in love :eek: Corey, any idea what kind of wheels those are? (not the RC's, but the aluminum ones) I've been looking for a really cool 5-star type wheel like those for awhile, but can't find em. I thought Centerline made em, but they don't show up on current catalogs. I think they kind of have that old-school Baja look to them - awesome! In fact, I used to have some white ones similar to those on my old Baja Bug.

No idea what they are Baja.
I have bumper envy though whenever I see it.
I can just picture that on my rig.

I'd take the plain one though in his older pics.
I like the tire underneath, and not in my way of seeing out the back window.

If my rig was a trail rig mainly, then yeah, it would be on the back.
