chop exhaust pipe?

does anyone have a good reason why i should not chop my exhaust pipe back to almost the muffler? my exhaust tip is coming out between the frame and spring right now, and starting to hit the spring under compression. i've been thinking of a mild lift (maybe just longer shackles), but in the mean time chopping the pipe would solve the problem. let me know what you think...

seriously, its that long for a reason.

toyota didnt waste money on that long of a pipe with out a reason...

you could route it else where. that would be the best way...

you could dump the pipe out right befor the passenger wheel. thats how my taco exahust is routed and it looks pretty sick.(i think at least). i have heard some rumers about it hurting my rims but it has been there for a couple mounths and no problems. but i wash my truck and rims regularly.

Thanks for the thoughts guys. Ric, that is pretty much what i was thinking of. Glad to hear that you have no exhaust issues in the breathing zone. I think the fumes issue would be even less in a tacoma, since the passenger and cargo compartments are two seperate units.

I just ordered extended shackles from 4Crawler, so that might fix my issue. I dont really want to chop the pipe yet, its actually a pretty nice setup. But if the lift doesnt solve the problem, its dremmel time.

this is where min is currently

and i cant drive with the rear window down, i get fumes pretty bad, the floor of the cargo area get really hot on long trips, and its going to ruin my shock if i dont get it fixed soon. but it does sound really good, nice and deep.
