Carburetor rebuild?

My truck has been idling rough at stop signs and diesels sometimes. Every now and then it takes some cranking to start. It is tuned up like it should be and the timing is correct. I have tried plugging the EGR vacuum tube to bypass it and it still does these things, so it is not that. Should I rebuild the carburetor or is there something else I should check first? How difficult is it to do?

Thanks for the input. I think maybe I will do that. I was also thinking about finding a carburetor off of a truck that someone is parting out and rebuilding that one. Then I can drive my truck while I rebuild it.

Check the fuel-cut solenoid on the carb. If it's leaking or stuck, it'll make the engine diesel when you shut it off.

You might want to checked the carb base plate as well. It's a thick spacer made of bakelite(?) that sits between the carb and the intake manifold The base plate has gaskets bonded to it on either side so the only way to fix it would be to get a new one. IIRC, it wasn't that much. Less than $40 or so at the dealer.
