brush guard oppinions?

Hi, I've been looking into a reasonably priced brush guard for my 2nd gen 1990 4runner and need some oppinions on some good ones, i've looked at a couple and just can't seem to picture them on my bus. So if you guys have pictures that would be great too.

Thanks

If you try a search on brush guard or grill guard you'll see exactly what high regard the general populace here has of them.

Hardly anyone here likes brushguards, even me, and I have one! That's not exactly true. I do like mine for the most part, I just wish I had purchased an ARB bumper. I wouldn't have spent much more and it would have looked really cool, plus been more functional.

Maybe you could find a used one though if you really want one and not spend as much as I did on a new one.

My opinion, do it right the first time, so you don't have to do it again. Don't get a brush guard, get a bumper. and if you do get a bumper, include the goodies now, that you might see in the future (winch mount). I know this is a whole lot more expensive up front, but it will most likely save you in the long run. (If you wind up later getting a winch and you're now staring at your 1 year old bumper trying to figure out how to make the winch fit, so you don't have to sell the bumper and get a new one) Also, another of my opinions, brush guards look nice, this i agree to, heck i want one. But I also know thats about all they're good for. Wack something good with one once, and you'll be a believer. If you truely want to protect your front end with offroading in mind, go the bumper route. If your rig won't see that much hard abuse, and you want to dress it up, go brush guard. It's your rig, outfit it the way you want to! Hope this helps.

i had a smittybilt bumper thumper bush guard on my truck and it did look good and was happy with the purchase for the first little while. A few months later the powdercoating started to peal off so I took it back and got a replacement under warranty. A few months later the same thing started happening again so I decided to sell it before it got un-sellable. I had paid just over $500cdn with taxes and listed it for $375cdn in many for sale areas (both online and locally) and waited and waited and waited. Eventually I dropped the price to $300cdn and waited some more. Finally after over 2 years of trying to sell, I finally got an offer of $250 from a local and we agreed on $265. It was in a 9 out of 10 condition. Check my signature pic to see what I replaced it with...

Holy crap, that's almost exactly how I want my truck. May I ask what the lift is? And to keep the thread on topic, are those the factory lights in that as-yet unnamed bumper?

you're referring to the turn signals i'm guessing? yes they are the originals. as for the bumper, it's a custom job by a local fabricator. I'm very pleased with it except for the fact that it's only secured by the original 4 14mm bolts. I'm almost positive that it will not suffice if I ever add a winch.
