braking problem

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and am new to 4Runners. I just purchased a used 98 Limited 4x4 with 94K. Overall the truck is in fabulous condition, however it does have a few problems that need to be addressed:

When I brake, it feels like the front end is shuttering or shaking. When I brake hard, it does not do this. It does not pull to one side or another as I have experimented and braked with my hands off the wheel, and it went straight. My guess is a warped rotor. I have also noticed that it pulls slightly to the right when cruising on the highway. Would a brutal curbing by the previous owner explain this?

Also the A/C is not ice cold. It does blow cool, but not as cold as I am used to. Previous vehicle was a 2001 Chevy Silverado. Is this par for a 4Runner or do I need to add some refrigerent.

I am all ears. Thanks in advance.

New front rotors and an AC recharge and you'll be good as new.

I 2nd that. Your vehicle should pull slightly to the right when driving. That way if you fall asleep you will go off the road and no into oncoming traffic.

Welcome

Sweet, thanks for the replys. My next question is how hard is it to replace the rotors (doing it youreslf), and where is a good, cheap online source to get the replacement rotors?

I don't think it's that hard to replace them if you have the right tools. I think .Performance Products have stock rotors as well as sloted aftermarkets

No, the rotors are easy to replace, just good luck on finding a set that won't warp quickly again. I tried the advance auto parts brand (whatever it was) and the bendix. Both warped quickly. so I gave up and let it shake when it brakes. The only thing I did find was to keep your back brakes well adjusted, seems to help the shaking from getting worse. Also While your at it you might as well just bleed the whole system and put new fluid in. Good preventative maintanace.

As for the AC, mines was all in factory specs and mine wasn't as cold as I expected either. I had my buddy crank up the pressure in the system with some more R-134A and its much better

01 4Runner- Brake pedal pushes back up consistantly

My 01 4Runner has developed a brake issue, my wife hit a speed-breaker and the brakes at the same time the other day, now everytime you push the brake pedal, it pushes back until it reaches the top and then goes back to regular position you started at. It will continue this until you take your foot off the brakes. Have done the following: bled all the wheel bleeders and at Master cyl., unplugged all ABS connections at ABS unit, took out both fuses and all 3 relays, disconnected the battery-and still when you push the pedal, with nothing electrical connected, it still does the same thing until you take your foot off the pedal. I am out of suggestions, anyone have any???

Your going to have to spend a little more bucks to get a good set of rotors that are not made in china. There's are sites out there that have good quality rotors. Last resort, the dealership.
