bleeding master cylinder?

Do you actually mean bleeding the master cylinder itself or do you mean bleeding the brake system? They are two different things.
If you have run the master cylinder out of fluid or replaced it, you will need to bleed the master cylinder. If you have replaced a slave cylinder or otherwise had the system open past the master, then you will need to bleed the system. The procedures are different, although if you bleed the master cylinder, you will then need to bleed the rest of the system. The opposite is not true.
