Air intake Mod
Finally got around to doing my cold air intake mod, total cost $10.50. Got the pipe at the local muffler shop, brass water line fitting from my plumber next door as well as the rubber 3 inch hose. The most work was taking out the factory stuff and tapping the pipe. Sounds nice and doesn't look bad, cheaper than going to Mickey D's.

Didn't really get a chance to take her out yet, I only finished a couple hours ago. If all the parts I took out weren't plastic the weight loss would have been an improvement. Pretty pleased with the way it turned out except for the 3 inch hose, I'll probably replace them with something thicker. As for more power I'll let you know tomorrow if there's a noticable change.

Got the hose's from my neighbor, he's a plumber. I asked him where (he's sitting next to me watching the tube), says the supply house. Funny man. Also said any Home Depot, Lowes, Fleet Farm, or Menards in the plumbing section. They come in 3 inch x 3 inch long (with clamps).

I'm using 3 inch PVC couplings from Home Depot $3.99 each (thicker and come with clamps)...Still tryin to get a muffler shop with a good piece of pipe...one guy wanted to start pre-bended on one end then do a custom bend/flair for $30...I may end up with that unless i can come up with a piece of tubing somewhere else...he said $3 per bend if I brought my own but none of the stores seem to have any in stock...Pics after I get it in.

I had this done a few years back with...
I bought a nice peice of 3" stainless pipe and had a muffler shop bend it for the intake on my Miata a few years back. I chose stainless because I could not find alloy and I was able to polish the stainless pipe till you could see yourself in it! Just a thought, I wish I still had that car.......thats another story

Found my answer... 3" flex exhaust tubing (from NAPA. No mandrel bend!) . I'll do a writeup and more pics in a different thread as it goes in. I'm sure it'll seal just fine. Think I'll paint it blue Blu

Not this stuff...the fittings go right between the ridges...I'll pic it when it's done. Also...it's solid flex tubing, not pieced together.

Well I had a chance to take her out and a definate improvement. Nothing extreme but it took a couple o's out of the 3.Slooow. Has a nice throaty sound too. No real big change around town but at cruising speed she has a bit better acceleration. One bonus a found was I had just filled the tank and after putting 190 miles on I still had fuel. I haven't hit that mark in years, also you can actually get at and see the spark plugs. This mod is a definate must do. Answering another question, the guys at the muffler shop just pulled her in, popped the hood, and just kept bending until i was happy with the angle. Oh, thanks for the hose tip Cebby.
