The best suggestion i have is to put some sort of a plate in the small front pocket or fiberglass a plate there.
i have an extra cupholder part and that is exactly what i'm going to try as my first fiberglass project. maybe one of you will buy it if it works out.

-OR-
I am thinking of using the plexiglass where my broken outside temp gauge is now mounted, (in the pocket under the ashtray) and installing the ECT and RS3000 buttons there.

guys,
it seems that many of you are worried about losing cutouts for your extra switches. i recall butnut telling me awhile back that there is a tool called a 'nibbler' that you can buy at radio shack that is perfect on plastic for cutting out cut out holes. ive never personally used it, but maybe ol' brian can chime in here.
also, i have a blue center console w/ the cupholder part for sale. however, the lid's arms are busted but you can simply swap your lid's arms in for these. all you would then have to locate is the silver bracket, the inner console parts, and the ebrake assembly. though it would be just as easy to buy the whole gaggle of parts, just an option for some of you.

update- just did the cupholder mod last weekend and it turned out great!!! bob, with all the new parts from the 99 such as the tub and ebrake handle, it was straight bolt off and bolt on, also there is no trimming needed to the cupholder..only thing i had to trim was the ebrake cable holder.... i did take a pic of the rear with the heater if you want to add that to your writeup..again thanks to all who have helped...bob for the writeup and alba jim for the parts!

chih:
so let me get this straight: with the 99 ebrake tub and the 99 silver bracket...you did not need to trim off any of the plastic cupholder parts? everything was simply bolt on except the ebrake cable holder?
that is unlike everything that i've heard thus far. maybe b/c you have the rear heater? travis, can you comment on this too?

Its ok SLC. Not a huge deal, the rear heater was SUPER easy to remove..i think there was only 2 bolts..also, during my first test fit, it looked like the rear heater "control lever" was too short but that's not the case..it does take a little work (about 3 min of moving it around) to get the console on, but it fits like a glove. if there are any more questions, please ask. Thanks

Let me get this 100% clear.. you do not need to cut the center console plastic at all if you have rear heater? The only cutting needed to be made is on the e-brake cable holder?
Clin, where did you find parts around here?

poboy, my attempt to locate one within st.louis was not accomplised. i saw that albuquerque jim said he could get the stuff. so i got all the stuff from him. yep, no cutting except the ebrake line holder
