'91 Runner behaving badly !
Rebuilt 3.0 over winter months, now am having problems with auto trans.
Started with not being able to get into passing gear, now will not rev past 2,000 without falling flat! on its face. It will rev quite freely in park or neutral, but if you put your boot into it and while it is pinned at 2,500 and you slide it into neutral it will still not rev.
I have changed trans fluid, as I had put Catrol Snthetic Trans into it and it may have been what caused this to begin with, filter has been cleaned also..suggestions Please

Are you sure it is a transmission problem? The way you describe it, it sounds like your engine is lacking power. Could you have done something wrong in your rebuild of the engine or the hooking up of the various parts on re-installation of the engine in the vehicle?
I would say the most common auto trans problem is slipping. In that case the engine revs but the speed does not pick up.

I have put about 5000k on my motor and have had no problems.
It has only been doing this for about a month now.
At times you have to back pedal the accelerator almost like a slipping manual.Hence why I changed the tranny fluid and cleaned the filter.
I thought it was the synth tranny fluid that caused it!
I will continue to play with it, the only benefit is the savings on gas mileage..ha ha
Any other suggestions are welcome ...thx
