89 4x4 gear ratio

Trying to find out how to determine what rear end gears are in my truck.
It's a standard bed,1989,5 speed straight drive trans. Bearings are going in hogshead and have friend with parted out 1986, 2 wheel drive.Would like to just change it all, if possible. Did they make more than one ratio? Both are 22R.
Some help would be greatly appreciated .
TIA

4wd and 2wd ratios are different. You probably have 4.10:1. Some 2wd's have 7.5" ring gears, and some have 8" ring gears.

4.10 with stock 225/75-15 tires, 4.56 with stock 31" tires. Nothing from the 2wd axle will swap with your 4×4.

In '86 all 2wd would be 7½" unless it is a 1-ton dually chassis.

4.56 and stock 31" tires with the 22R series engine...I don't know if there are many of those from the factory. I think that most of those come with 3VZE engines, if not all of them.

Here's a good link to identify what you've got.

They're rare (may have only existed in '89) but my friend had that combo on his '89.

I'd seen somewhere that is was 31" tires, auto tranny, and 22RE engines that got 4.88's (thus the rarity of said gears). All other 31" tires got 4.56's.

i don't think 22RE and auto had the option for 31s. all the oddball 4.88 diffs i've seen have had v6 carriers in them
