go to autos.msn.com and you can look up the specks of used vehicles to find out all the feathres, origonal purchase prices, reacalls, problems, and everything else for each year of 4runner. I found that the 3rd gen 4runners were rated as much more relyable than the 2nds but I still love the body style and look of the 2nd gen 4runners.

well sorry for not posting earlier, but those links did and are helping a lot... all the info i've gotten off this board has helped me and i'm so thankful...
I've just started driving, i have my permit now and i drove my first toyota...it looked like a 3rd gen, it was an extra cab pickup with the 4 cylinder and an auto...nice to drive, but then again, it would get boring and i still hope i get a 5 speed... Right now my dad and I are looking at a 1990 SR5 runner, and i'd like anybody's opinions on it, i posted another thread... but i decided that the 2nd gen's are nice too and i also decided i don't have to have the removable top...it will be quieter and more SUV-like with the solid body... I just hope we end up buying it...
