3vze perfomance?
It's about time to pull off the heads on my '93 v-6 for some t.l.c. I'm planning on going back with some headers and new exhaust, but wondered if there was anything else i can do to the heads (porting, cams, ect...) to get more power outta the 3.0. The only thing that's not stock is the intake pipe I built, and a modded air box. Also, who makes good headers for a reasonable price?

If you can, coat all the components that make up the combustion chamber with ceramic. It is fairly expensive though. I had it done on my Ford 351W and noticed an increase in fuel mileage and hp. And no I don't have deep pockets. A friend of mine was learning how to do this at an automotive school and I suggested my engine to be the guinea pig. The only thing it costed me was time to pull and remount the motor. The motor has been running smooth for 45K miles so far.
I think Doug Thorley makes some good hedders.

I had a pain of a time looking for mods for the 3VZE engine. The most stuff I could find were the parts from Downey Toyota. If you do a search in Google for Downey Toyota, you should be able to get to their web site. Everything from intake all the way out to suspension components.
I'm sure we'll here of other(better?) suggestions here.

Something we do with the engines we race with is hone the cyl. walls. this process is pretty cool because you impregnate the walls with silicone and then hone them out with a paste that removes aluminum, and not silicone, so it provides your pistons a layer of glass to move on. This treatment has become completely necessary, when we start bringing up compression and upping the stress. I'm not sure if this is possible on a Toy engine, as I don't know what the block is made of. I'm not even sure if this is just a thing we can do locally or if this is wide spread, but everyone in our region goes for this treatment.

I don't plan on going any furtherdown than the heads. Besides the block is steel, thanks for the suggestion though. If i change the cams, or valve size, or both, do you think I will have sufficent fuel/air flow with stock throttle body and injectors with good exhaust?

Get your heads ported and polished, One very important thing to do when you have the heads off a 3.0, Always, Always replace the knock sensor and wire, if not you'll get a code for a KS in awhile!
Get rid of that cross-over, it's the biggest power robber of them all. The bioggest problem w/the 3.0 is it can't breathe. Get some headers. Go with a freeflow cat and HP muffler and at least a 2 1/2" diam. exh. New injectors, have the valves ground or replaced w/os ones....!
Good Luck!

I ran DOA's heads on my ex's 94. Truck was fun to drive as long as the engine was above 3500RPM's... below that it was still a dog. Had I to do it over again, I would likely not put extra money into the 3.0. I'd of just driven until it died and put the $1500 towards a 3.4.
my 88 has headers, exhaust, DOA throttle body, K&N... It's not fast... at all.

Alright, too bad you can't do this honing technique, it's really improved our reliability. Also, honing is just what we call it, no clue if there is a more specific name of the process

do the 7mge AFM mod that cebby, parfuet, and myself are all independantly pioneering...LOL
Should give the 3vze 30% more air flow availability on the intake side. I have a loose exhaust anyhow so it should help.
