22re idle

hi, my 22re had the idle @ 1300rpm, way too high, i used a snap on timing light to get my idle to 650rpm. I also made sure the timing was +5 BTDC. i did also jumper the TE1 and E1 terminals to disable the computers timing advance. It was alot better. i went to start it up later today and it seemed to idle really high almost like its at the same rpm as before, what would cause this? Does it just need to warm up or is a sensor bad somewhere? ive never had a CEL except for the time i was low in coolant, which i just fixed by replacing my lower radiator hose which leaked and the CEL went away. I have no clue how to fix my idle and i am also getting really poor gas mileage for a 22re. Could my valves have any effect on this? i know one of em need to be adjusted so im gonna check all of em tomarrow. Thanks in advance.

tps was checked already, resistance is fine too, i may be thinking its a vacum leak but i checked the lines and they seem really new not even a crack in one, i heard u can use an un-lit propane torch to check for leaks, just let a little propane out and ur engine will rev if there is a leak? is this safe lol.

Yea its safe just keep it away from the alternator and NO SMOKING (proceed at your own risk). Seriously never had a problem using propane to test for leaks.

To answer your original question. Yes there is a warm up idle setting. Once the truck comes up to a set operating temp as reported by the coolant temp sensor and others, the idle is cut back to normal operating range. When you are doing any adjustments on the timing or idle systems you should make sure the vehicle is at normal operating temp.

The propane method works to check for vacume leaks, you can also use carb cleaner (sensor safe). The carb cleaner method can be a little more acurate as you can pinpoint the spay with the little nozzle atachment.
