88runna big dream build(going to be years)
Alright hey everyone,
First off let me say this site is awesome lots of info!
Okay back to business, I picked up this sweet 88 4runner sr5 for 800 bucks,
interior is beat up and the head is bad(3.0).
I have been saving the money for a 3.4 swap and am going to continue to do so, however since this is a long term project, motor will probably be last.
So let's get with the plans for the build. This will be when finished(haha yeah right) a trail, rock, sand and dd capable. I started with pulling the whole interior out, let me tell you for a 23yr old vehicle, there was no hokey wiring besides the rear window(and it still worked just made a new ground)
however po did not take care of intiror, bark chips, sand, food, mud, you name it it was in the crevises and side panels. So the rear panels where pretty shot(front part by seat not plastic rear ones) so plan on making new ones Polly bord and some grey fabric to match interior.
Carpet is shot so I pulled it all out, plan on doing a rynoline type of thing, plus sound deaden from firewall to rear seats and carpet again probably find a used set.
Re aploster the rear seats, maybe do the front seats or talk my grandpa out of his sweet heated reclining careabu seats that he has sitting around. And then of course dash has the typical Yota crack, however this is right where a inclinometer would be, so I am going to look around and see if I can find one, for a decent price atleast to cover the crack. My door panels are actually still rigid and strong but the grey is pealing in some spots, so I think when I recover the rear I will do the door panels also.
Then I am a huge stereo guy and like my music, I plan on running a set of 3 way component up front, 2 way components in the rear and a pair of boat tube speakers, powering all that will be my jl 6600 6 channel amp, and my jl 1000.1 to run my jl w7 comp ten, and attempt to mold it into the rear quarter panel(I know more stuff for a theaf to take but I'm going to do my best to divert and hide the stuff. I'll show you guys what i plan on doing with that setup.
That seems like it takes care of the interior besides a fully custom cage, well it will be basic, besides the front hoop I am going to run the A frame bars threw the dash, instead of in front of it to keep the room in the cab area.
So along with that being my interior let's get to drivetrain, for my axles I plan on using a dimond front axle, 44 outers with Yota center, fitted with highsteer, Toyota elocker(hp) 5.29 gears longs, for the rear I want to use a taco rear with elocker, suspention wise I will be doing a 3 link panhard front, possibly quick disconnect sway bar, and triangulated 4link rear.
Then cannot forget about doing dual cases, I plan on doing the cases same time I do motor swap(just makes since) going to run 2.28 front and 4.7 rear, with a rear drive disconnect, got lots of fun places to crawl here.
So your thoughts and or criticism is appreciated. Also you may wonder why I am going more expensive routes with my project, but I was always tought if your going to do something do it right the first time. I also like buying the most expensive stuff if I can't fab it myself.
don't worry I will get pictures up of progress sofar, and future progress.
