81 flat bed

here is my 81, i got it stock about a year ago with 130000 og miles, the original bed was rusted out so the flat bed was in order... the most recent is a 6'' lift a friend and i installed ,was a bit easier than i anticipated. ordered some 32 11.50 km2s and got em installed at the local high school. the next upgrade will be headers and a thrush welded 2 1/4 with a stack...

Nice! I really like the KM2's on those rims. That's exactly what I am looking for to upgrade the meat on my flat bed. Did you find those rims already painted or did you have to do that yourself?

I had to paint them... Was a absolute nightmare!! I should have sanded em before I cleaned and painted. The paint wanted to fish eye on every rim, I ended up striping the paint off 3 times before i just layed it on thick. I think it was a combination of the wrong degreaser and a pressure washer.... Por 15 sells a good degreaser that washes off nice with water. Purple power, soap and water is what I used... After it was dry I wiped it down with lacquer thiner let that dry then painted. Not enough prep...

Yikes! Well it was worth the trouble they look tough with that lift. I am definitely going to go with a set of blacked out rims.

I don't know how invested you were into those wheel before you decided to paint them, but jegs has 2 styles in black powdercoat for under 60 a wheel. I've been down the same road on painting wheels that are sitting around...I hear ya on the ton of work involved. Looking good though! Can't wait for updates!

Looking forward to the new sound and no more leaks. Long Header,2 1/4 thrush welded

Got around to getting some work done on the truck. the exhaust is in finally!had a buddy with a pace setter header under his house, got it sand blasted and shot some black temp paint on it. Went with a thrush welded 2 1/4 and ran it just before the rear axel. Got a quite a bit more power and the sound is excellent! Got my bumper welded up and on, not all that pumped on it... Probably going to sell it once I get my safety inspection. Working on some bed sides now, can't figure out what to do with them...
Will post pics asap

Your truck looks nice! I love flat beds on 1st gens.
Once I get a welder / learn to weld I really want to make a flat bed for mine.
