Called Firestone for the recommended psi for a 285/75/r16 tire and theytold me to put whatever I wanted in, they didn't have a recommended level. Right now they are at 45 and look fine but can they go higher? What do you guys air'em to?

My rig is different than yours, but much heavier I bet.
I am probably around 4,600 lbs plus.

I have 285x70x17, and I run them at 40 PSI

45 PSI seems pretty high to me.
I use to run my 31s in the 4Runner at 32 to 35 PSI.

I've been thinking about starting a tire pressure thread. With the price of gas I've been trying more and more pressure in all my vehicles. With my truck (33s) I'm running 43 psi cold, which gets over 45 psi hot. So far no problems.

What kinda rims are you running? I have 285/75's on my stock 16 x 7(?) wheels and if I inflate over 33 psi I will end up wearing just the center of the tire. I did the chalk test to make sure I was getting an even foot print; turns out about 32 psi is my magic number.

I'm running mine at 35 psi and they're wearing very nicely. 45 psi sounds high to me as well.

I run my Cooper STT's at about 43-45 psi, they wear fine in that range. Higher and ride quality suffers greatly (and wears poorly). It was suggested by Cooper rep that I run around 50, but it seemed too high for 4Runner (versus a truck that they would normally recommend pressures to)

I highly recommend the chalk test 4Crawler has on the website.

Remember, everyones truck, tires and load is different-so no one will have the same pressures you do. My T100 is heavier than your truck, I have 31's and run 41 in back and 38 in front, max is 50psi.

I am running Cooper STT's 285/75/16 on my stock Taco wheels (16x7) and am currently running 32 in front which seems perfect, and 30 in the rear and am not riding on the whole tread. The edges of the tire are not contacting. i am wondering how much lower I should go as there is just no weight in the back of a Taco and I even have a 140 pound canopy on it..

I run 285/75-16 Nitto Terra Grapplers on 80-Series Land Cruiser wheels at 35 psi. 45 seems too high. 35 is as rough of a ride as I can handle.

i had mine at 50 for a while, but aired em down to 35 and just as good, Wow just noticed basically like that guy ^^^^^^^^ same tires too

my 265/75/16's firestones destination at's were filled at 45psi. i lowered them to 40-42psi. all is well

i have kuhmo 6-ply 285 75r16 0n 16x8 4.5 inch offset and i run 50psi 40000 miles and still look good.max pressure on tire is 65 psi.

30psi is about right for me, but I upped it to 35 to see if I can improve mileage a bit. Jury is still out on that. At 35 I expect to see the center of the tire wear faster. I run them between 12-18psi on the trail and around 8-10psi in the sand.
