Yeah I am not sure as to why Troy and the crew mounted them that way. It might have something to do with the shock mounts of the 85 frame/Body.... Hopefully TC *Troy) will chime in on that.
The front and rear bumpers were done custom by All Phase from Longmont, which is sadly out of business... It took Troy 3 days to cut the front bumper off the old tippy because All Phase had really welded it on there! This is the bumper that will be going on Tippy II

So apparently those of us (myself included) who put the alternator back, forgot to plug in the 2 wires that connect it to the battery. (Another guy had taken it out) We drove it quite a while until it started dying near our house... I'm super glad Troy helped me figure it out. From now on If I work on something, It has to be from start to finish, otherwise I won't know about the parts that were disconnected! I gotta do it MrDoug style... By myself or with one other person and be able to lay the parts out so I know which order to put it back together! Apparently my next Job from Troy is to steam clean the engine bay.... Oh boy!
Anyone in Colorado have a steam sprayer or cleaner (I mean boiling water) to clean the engine bay. That purple cleaner isn't gonna cut it.

Well you can always get one of those pesticide spray pump thingies and fill it with HD degreaser. Take tipster to a coin wash and with her running gently pressure wash the loose dirt out... than go at the caked grease with the degreaser and let it sit a bit then press. wash again.
You may need to do this at night so you don't p off too many other peeps or get static for oiling up the wash bay...
just an idear...
btw did that 3.0 alt. fit the 22re?

OMG! I have my Truck back!
Tippy II drove really well for the most part on Friday on Left Hand doing Big Motha Hill and then the parts further up on Left Hand 286 D. Having less weight up top and in the engine compartment definitely made a huge difference. The suspention issues seemed a lot better with a lighter engine and top. Even my All Pro springs are no longer de-arched!
Yes this was me actually driving...

So we busted into that 22re today to do the timing chain...
Here's Troy's report:
Yeah it was on par with doing Troy's water pump.... There was some cursing and tool throwing (and a freaking seizure thrown in for good measure)... But as troy said we just need to get it lined up right.
And Troy is a rock star for helping me do this (more like me helping him do it) right before he leaves for Houston....
Here's Troy's report:
We changed the timing chain today - guides were DEFINITELY toasted (thanks for the heads up Russ!). Got it before it wore through the cover.
Went to start it and .... no go. As hard as I tried, I bet something got rotated and the cam timing is way off. Unfortunately, we won't have any time to look at it before I leave for Houston
Can someone come over, and help her get everything timed right? We have all the tools (including timing light) - just need someone with the mechanical inclination to line it up to TDC, pull the distributor and valve cover, and line up the cam and distributor to TDC.
Thanks!

So an update. After Troy left, I got a Tech to come walk me through the Timing chain. I honestly love that motor. I can now tear it down myself! We got her purring like a kitten... UNTILL..... We went to take her up to Holy Cross and on the way the Tranny pump went out. Now the Cab/engine/tranny are only 3 months old to us. I could tell it shifted a little hard. Shoulda known the tranny was about to go. It's at 190K and who knows what the PO did with it. So I'm hunting for a 22re Auto Tranny that I'll have re-built. Not sure I have time to do the manual swap as really Tippy needs to be running by Aug 22 to get on the Car Hauler for Houston.
Poor Tippy. She looked so sad on the AAA tow rig....
But at least once i get that done, I'll know that she's in good shape and should run without issues for awhile!

Sorry to hear you need a tranny... slush boxes suck... manny's rule.
Not sure if the brain box is the same if you do a conversion IK the 3.0s are diff.
good luck. stay zen

Yeah, I think a manual conversion is in order down the line... with a crawl box of course. The input I am getting from CoTTORA is slap the other one I got in, and re-build the trashed one... which I actually want to tear into myself once I get settled in Houston.... If not to just really understand an Auto Tranny...
