2001 5vz-fe Swap into a 93 4Runner
So some quick background info. I have a 93 4Runner 4x4, 5spd. Bought it with a bad engine for $750, So looked into engine swaps. 3.4 Seems pretty easy, I just bought a 2001 Tacoma 4x4 Engine, 5spd. Got it all for $900 including long block with everything and the ECU, and engine harness. So I figured I would start this thread to ask a few questions. (And yes before you say use the search button I have.) So to start, The fuel lines any one have a photo of where I need to re-route them? Just checking I have to exchange the oil senders right? Then use the 3.0 oil pan? The dipstick to be moved. And all new clutch parts. What else am I forgetting about before I drop the engine in? Thanks guys Here are some photos... The old 3.0.
Here is the 3.0 on her way out...Pain in the@!!

Read here for the fuel line flip.
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f160...51/index2.html
Use the 3.0 oilpan, pickup tube, windage sheild.
I used all 3.0 clutch components.
3.0 oil sender.
T100 dipstick and tube.

Thanks for the link I will check that out. I read that you should use the 3.4 flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch disc, and pressure plate and just use the 3.0 throw out bearing.

Ok so I'm having a problem taking the old line off the 4Runner seeing as I have the 3.4 Fuel lin ealready on and routed. Any tricks? The length of the line should be enough to go down the passenger side. The oil sender (Oil Switch?)... My old engine had a rod shot out the side, could that be a part that went bad? I bought the 4Runner with a bad engine so I have no idea what lead to the rod being thrown.

The "oil sender" refers to the sensor that sends the signal to the oil pressure gauge. It doesn't actually "send oil". So no that wasn't the problem. Good luck with the swap.

Ok. thats what I thought just wanted to be sure that I'm not putting a possible bad part onto my good engine. The part stores also call it a Oil Pressure Switch thats why I wasn't thinking it was at fault.

So last night I routed the fuel lines, here is the return line. Had to bend it a little but she works nicely. I wanted to make sure they were secure as possible so I used the existing holes to bolt to.
And both of them are done. All you do is loosen the bolt on the back side of the fuel rail and flip it 180 and retighten it. I had to take some stuff off to get back there but no biggy I just put it all back on. Not to hard really. I'm just a visual person. Describing something only goes so far. Anyone know what size the oil dip stick is? I heard it was 3/8. And we take off the engine mount brackets and put on the 3.0 right? Because of the difference in angles. If you compare the 2 side by side you will see what I mean. Thanks guys

I was looking at headers today. Any difference in Gibson and Downey? Any difference in OEM clutch and performance clutch? thanks neoworm0 for your input I will take that into consideration when I get the time to drill out the oil dipstick.

Ok, got home and had the bug to get out in the garage and tinker around a little. So I switched the oil sender switch. 3.0 on the left and 3.4 on the right. Really easy, the plug matched perfectly, so it was a tighten it up and plug in.
Here is the comparison of the oil pickup tube 3.4 on the left and 3.0 on the right.
And I'm drilling the new spot for the dipstick. I had one of those extendable magnets on the back to catch anything that was spilling out from the drilling action.
I still need to go buy a new splash plate, cause the 3.0 was damaged when it threw a rod.

So I machined out the old splash plate today at work.
Here it is in there with the pickup tube. I cut a little to much in certain spots but it worked out fine.
Swapped out the engine mounts from my 3.0 to the 3.4.
You can see the difference. 3.0 on the left and the 3.4 on the right. Different angles and slight height. The alinegment pins are different as well. And assembled the Oil pickup tube and the plate in there, going to put the pan on tomorrow. So here she is as I left her today.

Hey thanks thats great to hear. Just thought I should share my knowledge seeing as I have learned so much from all of you. Which persuaded me to do this in the first place.
