Problem w/ K&N Air Filter & X-Stream Flow, Please HELP!

I bought a K&N air filter and x-stream flow top filter for my 1982 toyota pickup and am having problems deciding on what to do. The guy I bought this from would only sell them together, so I got it mainly for the x-stream flow filter, which is the standard 14" accross to replace the stock filter housing lid, but it also came w/ a K&N filter that I know fits a 1970 corvette and is 14"x2.5" I believe.
The first problem that I ran accross was that the x-stream flow wouldn't fit where the original filter lid was because it's offset as you can see here in the first picture. So I think the only way I could do this is to take out the all of the air filter housing, even the intake that was highlighted in the 2nd picture, and see if i could make the x-stream filter fit along w/ the K&N corvette filter and then wrap it w/ a K&N precharger filter. I'd hate to do all this and then find out my hood wouldn't close because I'm limited on clearance.
Does anyone know if this would be at all possible? If not the only way for me to get something like that to work would be to buy a 12" x-stream filter and the standard 12"x2" K&N filter for the 1st gen toyota's. OR just buy the 12"x2" K&N filter and leave the original filter housing and not be able to use the K&N x-stream top filter. So whatever anyone would like to add please do so! Thanks

Jonathan

not sure how exactly the 82 is setup, however.... if you really want to use the xtreme filter top, look into getting an adapter from LCE that will convert your current carb housing to a standard bore filter housing... then it will all fit... i dont know how limited your clearance is on the 82 under the hood, but i have an 85 with a carb and have like an 8" tall fitler on it and it still clears the hood, i do have a 3" bodylift also though, but would assume a 2.5" tall filter would easily fit, the stock filter is around 2" to begin with.... here is mine stock, and what i put on it....

jimabena74 - i'll look into what you said. but first i think i'm going to see if i can customize the bolt that the wingnut screws down onto so it will line up w/ the x-stream flow top. thanks!
