best options for engine swap
So im think long term here,
my 22re powered 89 pu has 150k on it and going strong but if or when she decides to die on me what do you guys think would be the best options for an engine swap.
I want to be ready. i would like to stay toyota but if i cant oh well. I have plenty of shop space to store stuff so I would be able to get an engine, xmsn, ect...ect ready to go in and just store the stuff till I need it.
What do you guys think would be the best option for me, I would like to be able to retain the stock xmsn but if I cant oh well. I have read a bit on the 3.4 swap but that seems to be alot easier with a 3.0 than a 22re.
Thanks

You might also look into swapping in one of the newer 4 cyl Taco motors. I've heard of some guys doing it over on Marlin's board.
http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=19275.0 BTW TRD makes a supercharger for the 4 cyl Tacos.

Personally, I would replace it with another 22re, but I don't foresee you having to replace your engine for a long time yet. 150k isn't a lot to put on a 22re at all.

agree with Mehret--you probably got another 150k. THe only thing i would be worried about in the near future would be a timing chain.
routinely see these engines with 300k.

Supra motors fit nicely in place of the 22re and can put out ungodly power!
One word of advice as far as how you said you want to retain stock cross-members and whatnot. Its a motor swap and will take a lot more custom work than just replacing a motor into the truck!
Not to discourage cause I'm sure there is a good drop in, wire up and go but things like exhaust, motor mounts (depending) which arent hard to fab, crossmembers, drivelines maybe, and so much more can pop up along the way. There is a lot involved with swaps!
Be prepared to do some one of a kind custom work besides it sets yours above the rest and is more badass in the end.
I am going to the chevy 4.3 for reliability, power, little electrical, and parts are on the shelf at schucks unlike toyota parts. If I break on the trail I'm going to have a way better chance of getting it back out faster!
Just about any motor can be put into anything, so its what your willing to spend to get what you want into it!
Good luck cant wait to see some pics of a build someday soon!
