22r to ? swap
Ive been looking into buying a 1979-1983 pickup, but the 20r's and 22r's just dont have the power im looking for. What would be an easy swap or easy power gain like turboing the 20-22r. If I turbo the stock motor hows the trail power and overall reliability. Thanx for all the help on here guys.

putting a turbo on a stock 22r would be a chore not worth doing. If you are looking for more power do a V6 swap. Find a 3.4 or the 4.3 chevy.

what about inline 4-6 cyl diesel swaps from a landcruiser (3B,13B-T,1HD-T,1HD-FTE). Or a inline 4cyl gas (3RZ-FE) from a tacoma. Maybe a auto swap (can't drive stick).

swap
Whatever swap you do, it takes fab skills, even if you buy everything. I have done the supra inline sixes (5M-GE & 7M-GE) into toys, and I have done the 4.3. The 4.3 required less fab work then stuffing an inline six in. A cpi or tpi 4.3 will produce around 200 hp. A 5m-GE will do around 145 and a 7M-GE will do around 200. Buying a toyota 2.7 or 3.4 will generaly run you alot more money. I picked my 4.3, 700R4, and wiring from a $500 Chevy S-10 Blazer.
The adapter, shifter, and vss ran me another $800. The rest I fabbed to save money. Good Luck! |
