So since i purchased my 1992 (22RE) toyota a few weeks back the water tempature on the cluster has not really moved. Even idling for about 10 mins. It may have moved a little above the line, but nothing noticable.

Ive searched and all ive came up with is theres 2 sensors. One between Cylinder 2 and 3 and one under the TB to the right with a green pig tail?

What would be the best way to test the wiring. (can i ground it?) And if i was to test the sensor, what one would i test.

Any info would be greatful! Thanks.

Some more information. Looks like its been desmogged. I get a high idle after idleing. or driven slowly for some time. And i throw a code 25 pretty regularly.

I have the same problem, I've already replaced the sensor, but its still messed up..

The sensor between cylinders 2 and 3 is the gauge sensor.. The sensor on the fornt of the motor below and to the rightof the TB is the temp sensor for the EFI..

to test that your gauge is working correctly, ground the wire into the sensor using an aligator clip, or test lead.. with the wire grounded the gauge should read WAY into the hot, and illuminate a check engine light I believe.. do this test with the ignition in the ON position, but not running.. if the gauge does go to HOT, you need a new sensor.. if the gauge doesn't go to hot, you need a new gauge (according to my Haynes Manual, page 125)

yea i did that throu a test light so it had a little resistance. It slowly went to hot. So next step is new sensor i guess. Thanks for the info!

I replaced my sensor about 8 months ago, and it only worked for a few weeks.. I don't want to buy another $50 sensor, so I'm looking into aftermarket gauges with sending units..
