87 4Runner brake lights on at random
Hey all. I searched but couldn't find anything about this.
I have a 1987 4Runner that just had a bunch of work done on it. I had to get the heater core out which required removal of a couple of dashboard pieces; which may have led to my problem. Now I have an issue with the brake lights. They'll turn themselves on 9 out of 10 times that I shut the door. It could be in park with the motor off. The more problematic issue is that they come on and off while I'm driving.
I've tried checking some of the wiring and following the switch from the pedal itself; but I can't seem to find anything. I'm mediocre at best with electrical. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

check the brake light switch and see if you can adjust it, or that it is mounted correctly.
Also try moving the wires in that area to see if it makes the lights come on.

Thanks coops. I've checked both of those and can't seem to change anything. I took that part of the dash off too to see if I could spot any strange connections, but nothing yet.
