Why body lifts suck
Sweet I fit bigger tires but if I ever I roll this might happen. This happened after a buddy rolled on a gravel road... not even wheeling.

Not a fan of body lifts myself but really you cant expect much less in the event of a rollover.. it looks pretty harsh.
Did the bolts break or what? How did the body disconnect?

The driver was pretty banged up but overall okay. I have not looked at the actual truck to see what exactly failed. They installed the body lift themselves so it's hard telling.

WOW. Glad to hear everyone is ok. I'd be curious to see where the failure occurred. I know that the length of the body lift blocks create more strain/torque, but it seems like quality bolts would prevent them from completely sheering off, or at least make it no more likely than if there were no body lift at all.
Makes me want to go tighten down all my body lift bolts!!

the title should be called why rolling sucks.
who's to say that wouldn't of happened without the body lift?
the truck would probably had been better off if he rolled while wheeling, rather than cruising down a gravel road. low speed vs high speed right?
glad to here everyone is OK, i hate seeing a yota get destroyed.

This truck belonged to a guy back home where I grew up. I just talked to my step dad who looked at it and he said they did not put washers under the bolt heads on the cab....
Yellow sub... Someday I'll remove mine. I will have to throw away my custom front bumper, rebuild my rear bumper mountrs, and cut my sliders off the frame and reweld them though.

by the damage, it looks like the seperation possibly helped relieve some of the forces that would have crushed the cab. by it breaking free and having mobility on most axis, the loads were probably dispersed .

They are special washers, extra thick steel, likely heat treated and they have a very large OD for the size of the hole in the center.

I rolled my first 4Runner 10-12 times down a mountain in '96. Winshield popped out, plastic trim pieces got launched and the fiberglass top was partly torn off at the roll bar but the body lift stayed intact.
The only straight piece of sheetmetal was the gas door.
