1985 4runner 22re 5spd.

Ok my truck has been sitting for about a month due to a leaky gas tank. I finally got it fixed and installed yesterday so I thought I'd take it for a cruise.

On initial start up it ran fine, just like normal so I drove a few blocks. When it was warming up it started to stumble like fuel was cutting out, at first it wasn't bad but pretty soon it was really bogging down and eventually died.

I let it sit for a minute and started it back up and it idled fine, so I put it in gear and tried to move and it died instantly. I did this a few times and was able to move it a few feet but it kept dying, so I sat there being pissed off for about 5 minutes or so.

After sitting I started it again and it ran well enough for me to go about a 1/4 mile then it happened again. Luckily I wasn't far from home and a guy in a Toyota towed me back.

Now today I went out to check it and it started fine ran great so I started running it up and down my street to warm it up, once it started getting warm it wanted to die again and eventually did.

So give me some ideas as to why a truck would run great when cold but die once warm.

The leak is fixed and the fuel pump is fine. I've also been having some electrical problems with the truck so I think that might be affecting the engine now.

Hopefully I can figure it out tomorrow.

Kind of like the fuel just cuts out when it warms up. Weird eh.

sounds like a fuel pump issue to me thats usually what happens when the crap out once they warm up they quit working let them cool a lil they will start working again

That was one thing I was thinking about, but since it ran fine when cold I wasn't sure. I really hate pulling and installing this tank.

Guess I'll throw one of my extras in there tomorrow and see if that does it.

if u have a scope u can hook it up without dropping the tank one of the best investments i ever made

Well I tried two different fuel pump just to rule that one out and it still does it. I haven't really messed with it for the past week (too lazy).

I'm still stumped.

Try the fuel pump test jumper:

And might be the EGR modulator plumbed incorrectly and opening the EGR valve when it should not be. Could try pulling the vacuum line to the top of the EGR when it starts acting up and see if it changes.

Yeah . I would definitely test the fuel pressure when it's warmed up ,just to rule it out .

When I jump it nothing happens, cold or warm.

Did you Check the main relay ? located on the fuse box driver side kick panel. Test it

Haven't checked that yet but its on the to do list along with a few other things.

Its too cold out for me to work on it. (I know I'm wuss)

I just checked out my cooler full-o-wire harness's and found 2 efi relays so I guess I'll try those out. I don't have a multi meter of my own so I can't just test them the right way, I'll have to get my buddy over to help me with that part, but the odds that all three are bad is pretty slim.

Well the relays didn't do anything either.

Its gotta be something dumb I'm overlooking.

I un-plugged the vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator while the truck was running, waited a few seconds and plugged it back in. No more problems.

My money was going to be on a bad sensor - probably a temp sensor for the computer.
