Insurance Company HELP with my totaled rig!

ok nuts and bolts - my '98 4runner is totaled

deets:
'98 202xxx miles
a/c
p/s
p/w
p/l
tilt
single CD
ABS
Privacy Tint
Moon Roof
Roof Rack
Sliders (running boards)
Custom bumpers (front and rear)
T-15 and a Bruce t/s clone rear
Tow pack
Alloys
32"s (aka ovrsze off-rd tires)

KBB says private party value in FAIR condition is $4760

My deductible is $1k

My adjuster said they'd add on $1000 for the bumpers and sliders...and their offer to me (before deductible) is $4188!

I told him to re figure and re think, 'cos i ain't going for that!

thoughts? anyone got an angle? some ideas?

your just kinda screwed. sounds like their assesment is acceptable (not fair mind you). there is little you can do once they decide on a value and total your car. you can try to argue KBB value but they don't use KBB to determine vehicle value (they use a few different companies that escape me now, ask your adjuster how they determine value so you can better argue the vehicle value.) find prices on all modifications you made and show them how much in real mods was put in. it might help.

If the car is repairable you can say no thanks and fix it yourself (no salvage title) or you can just take the salavage title and the check and maybe get it fixed for less.

Red face

well if you think the price is to low just buy it back. Fix or have it done.

By all means if it is close take the money.

i had a friend a few years ago some woman ran a stop sign pretty much took out the right side from mid door back. Even having all the recipts they might still be fighting.

This just goes to show if you put lots of money in your vehicle Keep all the records and tell your agent as the dollars add up.

the insurance company did that to me about a yr ago, but mine was a 93 4runner and they offered way more than i thought i was gonna get for it so i took the money. But they did say that the process to buy it back from them was basically a long list of pains in the @$$, it ended up costing more to buy the truck back then what they were going to give me so i stuck with the money.
and im with MaK92-4RnR... part it!! they sent a flat bed to come pick it up anyways!

Well you can't get anywhere near $4K for that parting it out-so strip it before they get it...

if the roof rack for example was not covered by the insurance then they should not be able to get it ... just put roller tires on it-like 4 spares on it so you can sell those good tires and wheels- I think you get my drift....

fight the fair condition assessment-if you kept it in immaculate shape then you are entitled to that. It is just like buying a car- it is all negotiable...you have a good history of pics from this very forum maybe?

good luck and view it as what $$ figure could you have gotten for it if you sold it undamaged? Then close the gap between the 2 figures....

We're here to help. Don't close the book until you are satisfied with it. You been paying in all these years, now it is time for them to pay back.

look at the NADA blue book price this is what the credit unions are going off of..

There is also much undisclosed for instance who was at fault?? and if the other person was at fault then did you have uninsured motorist??? these things are all considered...

with uninsured motorist you can have a higher return then without, of course that is if they were found at fault!!
