Collateral Damage by the Dealer

I just picked up my 1990 4Runner at the Dealer after hours.Had new brake pads/rotors installed.Paid with a credit card over the phone.I thought it sounded loud. When I got home I took a look underneath.Sure enough the exhaust pipe(3 years old/very rusty/installed by Meineke) is broken off completely from the muffler and split over the hanger.Any ideas how this happened and the best way to approach the dealer without a mega confrontation as to how this problem can be resolved?Thanks...Joe

Just take it in there and let them know. I am sure that they will be happy to help fix it and I do believe you may have thirty days to return the vehicle if they say no way we won't fix it. If not bite your tounge and get it fixed.

hmmm... was the exhaust ready to fall off in the first place? if so still confront them saying it had no problems, but be prepared for them to ignore you and point out that it is very rusty and was bound to happen

If they give you any trouble, you can ask to speak to the District Service Manager or if you feel the need you can call the Toyota 1-800 number. I know that the number is listed here some where.

Hope this will help.

Talking

By your own admission above it was on its last leg. Take it to a REAL muffler shop, get something that wont be rusted out in three years, and stop blaming the dealer for something you should have already had fixed and that more than likely just fell off IMO.

EDIT: Sorry if I came off as harsh...didn't mean for it to sound that way. Take it back to George Foreman as don't they have a lifetime warranty?

HMMM..That's a good call. But, it couldn't hurt to drop by the dealer and talk to them about it. Just politely tell them the situation and ask if it can be resolved. There is no use in getting worked up about it. When I used to work at a dealership, there was nothing that made the service manager not want to help a customer more than when they got all irate over not a huge deal.

Doesn't Meineke have a lifetime warranty? Not sure. never been there never will. Just a thought.
Also if it was loud when you picked it up you should never have left before talking to someone there about it.
Good luck

I agree, take it back to Meineke and have them fix it.

Reminds me of a customer from yesterday.

Came in for radiator hoses and his power antenna quit working. He wanted to know what I was going to do about it, So I pointed him towards the door and said bye bye!
