99 4runner rear door adjustment

I just picked up the 99 4runner. The rear door rattles when going over potholes, manhole covers on the street.

I loosened both the Striker and the Latch, but the holes are not slotted for adjustment.

How do I adjust the door?

Thanks in advance....Ringer

I'd wonder about the condition of your hinges and the condition of the seal before starting to adjust.

When the door is unlatched, can you move it away from the hinges at all?

Is the seal all dry and smooshed?

Thanks for the reply! The seal is in great condition, and the hinges are tight. I can push the door in slightly when it's in the closed/latched position.

I'm wondering about the side cushions on either side of the door about 8-9" up from the bottom. They might be adjustable sliders, just to take the side to side wiggle out of the door?

Makes me wonder if the door is rattling, or something inside the door. How did you confirm it was the door itself rattling?

Good point. This might call for having a buddy drive while you sit back there and try to locate the rattle.

At last finally found the culprit. The rubber bumper on the tailgate about 6" above the bottom was missing.
Replaced it it and no more rattle/thumping coming from the rear.
