Hi everyone, i am new here i bought my toyota a few years ago, i havent drove it in about a year, it was running fine and i found a leak in the gast tank at the bottom, i selaed that up and now it doesnt start it tries to fire up..my thoughts are that the fuel got junk in it from being emptied and the fuel filter is clogged, but i cant find the fuel filter for the life of me..can someone help me locate it? i have read the article on this in the forums but it didnt help me find it i followed the fuel lines up to the motor...it is a 6 cylinder fuel injected.

its on the passenger side right above the torsion bar mount beside the frame. i tried to change mine today but i kind of stripped it a bit. gonna buy a flare wrench to take off the filter. my filter looks like it never got changed

im not too sure where or what a torsion bar mount is, but i will have a look when it gets daylight, thanks for the response.

ok just scan the side of the frame rail on the passenger side and you will see it. theres a metal shield covering it. it is around where the torsion bar mounts to. if you cant find it when it gets daylight, ill snap a pic for you.

I followed the lines and looked again, i think i may hve located it but im not 100% sure, if it is it it is quite large and very old and its not connected by clips or anything it has pretty good size wrench needed.

Yea and its not very easy to remove, its right above the cross member on the passanger side.

u need a 19mm and a 13mm to take it off. make sure you use a flare wrench. dont want any stripped nuts. have fun changing it.

I changed mine about a week ago , The nuts were or are all stripped i had to use vise grips , which is probably what the previous owner did, BUt it sealed up so whatever.

i couldn't got mine out, so i just cut the old lines about a inch from the nut and then added some rubber fuel line to bridge the gap and to make it easier to remove next time. i also use 'never seize' on every nut and bolt for the sake of saving a headache in the future.

toyota should had made a screw on filter instead

what do you mean screw on? The lines already screw into it.

I too cut the lines and used injector hose (higher pressure) the connect a large generic fuel filter. Will only take 10 minutes to replace in the future, and it was only 10 bucks!

i mean fuel filters that screw on like oil filters. for the injector hose did you use clamps so that they dont slip off. and what diameter is the hose?

That would be awesome. Simple.

The size is 5/16", IIRC, I'll check when I get home. I used worm gear clamps for 1/4" - 5/8". The filter is for an F150, and is a bit bigger than the Toyota filter. The fuel filter was actually $3.82, I get a discount at a place who sells parts to the local mechanics. Now I'll change it once a year.
