Hey I just bought a 93 toyota pickup ex cab with the v6 in it. The truck has 220k but the engine doesn't burn any oil from what I can tell. It has 32in tires on it. The truck is absolutely gutless on the highway. I understand that the big tires kill the power but unless its absolutely calm and flat the truck has a hard time maintaining 70 and going up or down a hill of any significance I have to hit up third gear. I just did a couple hundred miles in it and got about 17 mpg. I like the truck no matter what, but just wondering if this is normal for these since this is the only one I've ever driven. Thanks

That's why they call it the 3.slow! Yours sounds like it's a little tired, I would change the plugs, wires, and distributor cap. Get a new air and fuel filter too. These items may help a lot.

Have you adjusted the mpg figure to account for the tire size (ie: if you originally had 28" tires, then switched to 31" tires and your odo. reads 100mi, you will have actually travelled 110 miles)?

17mpg isn't really bad for the 3.0, especially if that involves city driving.

my truck rips with 29's using 4.56 gears. but with my heavy 33 inch tsls i still was able to go up hills in fourth gear easily on the highway or road so your engine must be a little tired

usually drove in 5th around town and highway and on roads with a lil inclines i was still able to go up in 5th when i was using 33s

yup, sounds like its a bit tired... or maybe just in need of some basic tlc.... I had no probs goin uphill with 4.10's and 33's in my p/u. and it has about the same mileage

welcome to the 3.0.... power of a 4cyl, gas mileage of a V8.

what gears do you have in it? look at the VIN door tag on the drive side door jam, there will be a Gxx4 code in the lower right corner.. what is the xx? with 32s you'll want at least 4.56s

i guess i've never thought about is or its never occurred to me. wow. just wow. i cant believe i never though of that. would 31's to 32's make a big difference? is there a thread somewhere that has a table for adjustments of this sort? damn.

Check your timing. Timing on these motors makes alot of difference. Toyota set these motors to 10 from the factory, but by advancing the timing to 14, you can bump a little more power out of the engine.
