starting problem and other...

ok i have a 87 4runnner on a 7" lift and 33s i just got 2 days ago other suv is a zj on a 4" lift and 31s but anyways i got the 4runner and i think it has the 22re not sure its fuel injected but to start it u have to hold the gas pedal to the floor and its still rough to start it idles down after a sec to either 500 or dieing it had no vacuum hoses so i got all that taken care of and same thing practically if u rev it up for a little it will usually stay at idle but if it stalls it will crank but is a pain in the ass to get it to and it also smells really rich the whole time during this i messed with the timing some and it didn't seem to help any ideas what can be making it hard to start

Dude, that's all one long sentence. I'm not sure where one thought ends and another begins.

You have EFI unless the engine isn't original. Look and see if there's a carb and an air cleaner around it. If not, you have EFI. Let us know whether it's carbed or injected so we can start helping.
