let me start out by saying this forum is the reason i am always tired at work the next day : )

ok i have a 1988 toyota pickup standard cab 22re all stock. My goal is to put some 33 10.50 inch tires under her. My first thought was a body lift because ive read that the ifs works the best stock but people tend to bash bl because of the added stress on the mounts. so now i am looking at a 2'' bj spacer and rear shackles.

My question is does the bj spacer put alot of extra stress on the ifs?
Will this clear 33's?
Are body lifts really that bad?

I run a 3 in body lift on my stock 3rd gen. I run 35s with it and they clear just fine.. As for the stress on the mounts... I havent had any issues yet. (knock on wood).. I check all my stuff after wheeling and it never is an issue.. If your wheeling IFS anyways then I think you should be good with Body lift.. Thats just my opinion tho...

some people fit 33x10.50's stock. so you should be good with a body lift or bj spacers. i run bj spacers and a 3" body lift and love the setup.

I have a 3" BL with 33x12.50's. I've wheeled it pretty hard, and haven't had any issues with my mounts, or lift. I'm getting 33x10.50's next week, and I'm sure they will be a much better fit.

I say do the BL, and the BJ spacers with relaxed torsion bars. Then your tires will fit, and you'll have better flex in front.

OK so no bad comments on the bl I'm thinking a 2 inch bl and spacers.
A good quality bl lol i have no interest in my cab separating from the frame....

Go with 1.5 BJ spacers and shackles or blocks. Body lifts look bad. You shouldn't need any more lift then that to clear 33's.

bj spacers don't give you any additional clearance. The suspension still compresses to the stock position.

33x10.50" tires will fit without lift and a little clearancing (on stock spaced rims).

Body lifts are great, its all your opinion.. Many many people run them

if I don't need a lift to run then that would be awesome. But when you say a little clearancing is need are talking about fender cutting or just inner plastick. I believe in lift it only as much as you need

Please explain? If the upper arm moves to say 0 degrees with 1500 lbs on it, it will alway move to 0 degrees no matter what I do aside from adding more weight or changing the torsion bar.

If I now put 1.5 inches more under it (which pushes the lower arm down since the upper arm always goes to 0 degrees) do I not lift the truck 1.5 inches (give or take due to angle change)?

The way the ball joint spacer is setup, it lowers everything under the UCA.

Yes you lift the truck, but you don't gain any additional clearance at full compression. Thus trying to clear larger tires with BJ spacers doesnt work. You gain lift while riding along, but as soon as you hit a bump or pothole it compresses back to the stock position.

great post jay351!!! i have a 3" bl and 1.5" bj spacers with 33x13.50 swampers. my truck riding on the street looks like im skying my tires by a good bit but as soon as i flex a tad bit my tires rub like crazy.

Yup! Working my way there myself. No need for major $$. Save your money and you can get some Bud Built belly pan skidplates too. Mmmmm
