I agree, although my engine isn't wornout by any means... I had to replace a head gasket when I bought it and since I had it apart I looked a little closer and the engine looks like it has possibly been gone through.. It's in very good condition for the mileage that the truck shows. I however cannot confirm this but, I did notice a small difference in power but nothing to write home about. My main point was my poop mpg and his is great. I don't expect this motor to make much power... Thats what I've got a spare 5m for! oh and that would make for some nasty milk... just sayin

Ya know, I guess people find different results... I actually don't feel much of a difference at all, other than VERY top speed(maybe 2-4MPH depending).... with the Stock Exhaust and 2" to CAT and then 2.25" to the Muffler and then 2.25" out the back.... Compared to my LCE and 2.25" Exhaust that I had. In fact, I feel a lil more low end torque with the stock tri-y cast mani. Seems to have that lil more backpressure it needs. Anyway, I still plan on putting my LCE back on, but with 2" to the CAT and THEN 2.25" out the back.. Plus, I'll have my 02 Bung welded onto the Header Collector, WAY closer where my 87 was factory... (which is on the mani before collector on the stock Manifold).

THAT HEADER DID sound sick though,...gotta say! hahaha. I think when I add that lil backpressure back, along with letting it flow out of the head a lil better...it'll make a difference that I can notice again. Giving me low end torque and a lil better top end, that's the goal.

Also.... again, I hear that alot..and I'm not doubting what people say.. But my 261 CAM WAS BY FAR the best power gain that I added. RIGHT OFF THE BAT I gained almost a gear on the hills I normally had to push it up in 3rd on, which now I could do at 4th and even 5th. Adding the 4.30 Gears to that, on 31's, rather than 4.10's? EVEN BETTER! The header and CAI? Just didn't FEEL IT, ..but sure heard it.

Not EVEY trying to argue, Bob, lol.... Just sharing my personal experience. Seems they range WIDELY in ''things noticed" upon installing/using, ya know?
Been better.

4runner is dead for now. I am trying to find time to take the head off and determine the extent of the damage.

If it's just the headgasket, she'll be back in service soon. If there's more damage....well, I'll be driving the Sonoma for a while.

I still don't know what motor swap I would want to do.

The swampers are not helping you cruise on the freeway at all, and the pavement is eating them up @70mph, (ass-um-ing) you have 4.10gears you are fighting hard for 70... If your truck was born an automatic it will be automatically gutless... 4.56 gears out an v6auto cheaper than full re-gear, think about ur tires too

for gearing read the vin plate on the firewall it will give you the factory code at least, a little searching will help you decipher it.

Another easy way to tell is to pull the rear shaft and if the end of the pinion is painted pink you have 4:10's.

There is also a color chart on the interwebs with the different pinion paint colors for gear ratios.

I haven't looked them up in a long time and I'm not about to start right now.

Anyway you most likely have 4:10's with the 33's and its making your truck a slug. Do all the engine mods you want but they won't compare to proper gears.

Love your rig, 85!

YEP, my 4:30's are out of an Auto... locked/Spartan in the rear.... BIG DIFFERENCE in 'added umph' on the hills, etc., just having 4:30's and 31's(my other set right now is 32's... They're still on since my off road trip cuz I've not put many miles on em and I'm just wating til I do the CV reboot).... I know it would be a lil better with 4:56's on the hills.. But most of my 700+ mile trips being straight away.... I like being able to do 85-90 w/out being at 4K RPM, lol.

As it is.... the 4:30's and CAM are by far the best noticeable power improvements I've done to this thing. OH, and avoiding the temptation to hammer the welds and slam 35's under it! hahaha.
