Largest Tire that will fit is???

So I want to do something about my tires on my '99 Taco. It's a TRD with 31x10.5x15 tires on it right now. All I want to know is what size tires will fit on my truck with no mods to the suspension and such?

I don't want my tires to rub or anything like that either. Am I stuck with this size under these circumstances?

I am only asking this because this tire size seems to really limit my choices of rim/tire combos and I want some different shoes for my truck when the time comes. I'm a few months away at the moment so I wanted to shop around now.

Oh...and I REALLY like the FJ rims that are on that green runner in the thread on this page...can I fit some of those on my truck?

I only ask this because I've been searching around and haven't really found any threads that are direct about what sizes will fit and what sizes won't.

Thanks!!

I'm asking this because I want to possibly put some Nitto Terra Grapplers on my truck but the only tire that Nitto makes that comes in my size is the Dune Grappler.

I off road mostly in dry dirt/gravel situations but get in mud sometimes.

What do you all think?

I thought all the TRD Tacos came with 16" rims and aren't they comparable to a 4Runner's max size with the stock suspension which is 265/75s.

My Nittos have been peforming great on road and off and are ok in short trips through mud.

Yes.

You can go from a 15" to a 16" with no problems. However, going from a 16" to a 15" can cause clearance issues.

Are the wheels you have on there now aftermarket? Like X-AW said, I thought all TRD Taco's came with 16's.

Sorry Fink....I did search and couldn't find a thread with a straight answer to my question.

I think that the 265/75/16 is my max though...from what I've found.

The only bad thing about that is needing new wheels for those tires!

They are the wheels that came with my truck. I bought it used so there is no clue if the size is what it came with from factory. They look exactly like the wheels in the video on "Painting Wheels" in the tech section of this forum. They are 15s though...Right now I've got Procomp All-Terrain 31x10.5x15 wheels on them.

It's got a Rear Diff Locker, ECT, Bilstein Gas shocks, 4wd Package.....why wouldn't it be trd?

Just to make sure I just called my dealer and read them my vin#....they said it is a TRD.

Odd about the wheels though?

After doing some Google'ing it looks like all the TRD Taco's in that year have those wheels on them. Learn something new everyday!

You wouldn't necessarily have to get new wheels, you could probably fit 32's on there with no issues. Unless you're just really wanting to go with 16's.

The wheel size isn't really an issue for me. I was thinking about painting my wheels black anyway...like the ones in the video walkthrough.

I just want to have some options with my tires. I like my procomps but like to change it up a bit. I want something that is a little more visually appealing but still has the offroad performance.

I saw a new Tundra with the Nitto Terra Grapplers on it and really really like how they look. Which is the reason that I'm asking all these questions.

Thanks Fink!

Honestly X-AW is the man when it comes to the Nitto's.
I have heard good things about them for the most part, however I have heard horror stories about how fast they wear on the road.

You might look into BFG A/T's, tried and true. Last a good 40-50k.
Easy to find, come in all kinds of sizes.

Just a thought, I had them two 4Runner's ago on my 2nd gen and I loved them.

Depending on your budget, Bridgestone Dueler Revo's (not sure if they come in your size) but they are amazing tires.

I would go on TireRack.com or DiscountTire.com and put in the size you are wanting and see what it pulls up.
