brake problem

currently having some brake problems and would appreciate some assistance. I ordered new pads for my 22re 1989 4runner, and noticed the pads i purchased (mkd410) are to big for the caliper. i compared the pads i bought to the pads on the runner, and the pins are spread further apart and shims are not wide enough to fit. the caliper says s12+8 on the side, and after some reading noticed that it could be for an older toyota truck. i searched from 1983 trucks as well as the 1984-88 4runner v6/22re and they all come up with the same brake pad part number. please help!

Sounds like you have the correct calipers for your 4cyl truck. One small piston and one large piston on each side of the caliper. But it sounds like maybe they gave you V6 caliper pads. (For vehicles equipped with the V6). Those calipers have four larger pistons in each caliper. (also a popular upgrade for 4cyl trucks, do a search if you've not heard of it.).

Maybe exchange the pads for '86-'87 pickup era? No V6 was available then so maybe the parts person will have less options. Just a thought anyway...

I don't remember what the V6 calipers have cast on them. Although they do have many cooling fins and are much bulkier compared to the no cooling fins and plain casting of the 4cyl caliper. I will check my old 4cyl calipers tomorrow and try and report back.

heres a picture of the new pad under the old pad. the old pad is offset to the right so you can see the hole lined up, and you can see that the new pad is longer and the pins do not line up. part number for the new pad is MKD410

I have an '84 x-tra cab, 4wd shortbed. I pulled off S12+8 front calipers when I did my V6 caliper/FJ rotor upgrade. Solid rotors.
