4Runner 95 Diesel 3L Motor Power Steering Issue

Hi Guys

Im a newbie here with little knowledge about cars and I looking for your advice.

I have a 1995 4Runner Diesel 3L Motor with a power steering issue, at the beginning I felt the power steering was working at half capacity because the steering wheel wasnt returning to its place by itself after turning.

Then I heard a humming / moaning noise while turning left and more recently a squealing noise when the steering wheel (that also have a play issue) turns until the end of its capacity

I was told to replace idler and pitman arms, which I did.

However problem continued, I suspected about the power steering pump, so I purchased one at ebay and a new belt from our local toyota dealer but after removing the original pump, we found I got it wrong and haven't been able to find the correct one.

So we decided to put all back together and now, the problem is worst, there is no power steering at all, and there is a moaning noise just turning a little the steering wheel instead of until the end like before.

Any advice ?

Sound slike your pump is bad.

Lemme guess - did you fill it with power steering fluid? (It takes ATF)

ok so I just need to drain the power steering fluid and fill it with ATF to fix it ?

or this could cause a severe permanent damage on my car ?

just to go and complain with the guy who did this

In my experience, using PSF instead of ATF spells quick death for the power steering pump.

my hiluxm has started in nuetral at first or when going slow the steering gets real tight..

i think its just my belt as the fluid is still full.. its not like the alt where there is a bolt to put tension on it.. i read in my manual i have to loosen both bolts then PRY the pump while someone else tightens those bolts..

Usually (not always), you can hear the belt slipping if that is the problem.
